Although it seemed like he was staring at the instructor, he wasn't. His attention was rather taken by another system notification.

[Does the Host want to learn the skill "Lightning Stun"?]

[Cost: 5 skill points]

[Yes/No]

Harry was quite surprised by the notification that appeared in front of him. He hadn't expected that he would be able to learn new skills from spell-books

His plan was to get the skill "Lightning stun" from the skill shop, so when the spell-casting class started, he would simply use the skill instead of learning or rather, casting the actual spell.

With 'mana core illusion' active, it would seem like he was actually channeling the required mana from his mana core and casting the spell.

As for how he knew 'Lightning stun' would be the skill he would be learning today, it was because it was common information that Lighting stun was the first spell Lightning Elementalists were taught in the academy.

Besides, the last instructor had already told him before today that the first spell he would learn how to cast was lightning stun.

Though he hadn't expected the notification, it didn't mean he was sad by it. It was the opposite--he was excited.

The fact that there was another way to get skills other than just the 'skill shop' naturally made him happy.

The amount of skill points it took him to learn skills from spell-books was also four times cheaper than the amount of skill points he needed to get skills from the "Skill Shop".

To get "Lightning stun" from the 'skill shop' he would have to spend twenty skill points, however, learning it from a spell-scroll would only cost him five skill points.

[The skills in the system's 'skill shop' are a lot more powerful than their spell-book versions. So you should stop comparing them.] The other voice said.

From its tone, it seemed to be annoyed at the fact that Harry was comparing his skills to spells.

Harry simply ignored the other voice. He had never made use of his elemental skills to their full capacity or potential.

Due to his environment and the damage the skills could cause to his house, he had to refrain from activating skills like lightning strike and wind slash.

The only skill he actively used was 'accelerate' and that was to travel to the academy and other places that were quite far from his house.

He occasionally activated skills like 'Lightning ball' and 'Lightning dash' , however he wouldn't launch the ball, neither would he run using the other. He would only stare at the Lightning ball above his palms and then make little movements with it.

However, he did know that his skills were more powerful than their respective spell versions.

He just didn't think the difference would be as overwhelming as the other voice stated--the system and the other voice sometimes exaggerated things related to being a Manaless mage.

It was still a win-win for him, he would gain a skill and could still level it up later.

Just as he was about to say the word 'yes', his brows suddenly furrowed as a weird expression appeared on his face.

'Absorbing it wouldn't cause any changes to the spell-scroll... right?' Harry asked the other voice. 'I mean, it wouldn't disintegrate or anything?'

[Note: Spell-books could also be referred to as spell-scrolls.]

[The Host doesn't need to worry about that. Learning the skill would only automatically transfer all the skill information to the system and the Host's mind. The scroll would face no changes.]

Harry heaved a sigh of relief when he heard the system's words.

He hadn't expected the system to answer his question though. The system hardly answered complicated questions like this, it was why he asked the other voice instead, but to his surprise he received an answer from the system and not the other voice.

Harry didn't think much about it, he had already gotten his reply and he could now learn the skill without having to worry about any implications.

"Attention Morton!" The instructor's voice suddenly rang out.

The heads of all the students in the class turned towards Harry once more. Most of them were glad as it seemed like Harry had offended the instructor by getting distracted.

Harry lifted his head slightly and then stared at the 'frowning' face of the blue haired man.

It seemed the instructor noticed that his mind wasn't completely focused on the class.

He was slightly irritated and annoyed that the man referred to him as "Morton" instead of Harry. However, he didn't show it on his face.

"What did I say last?" The instructor said. He noticed Harry was zoning off during his class. To him, that was a sign of disrespect and Harry being too proud and over-confident of his talent.

"You were talking about how casting spells was very difficult during the 'apocalypse ages'." Harry replied confidently without breaking his words.

He didn't let himself get too distracted by the system notification. While he was conversing with the system and the other voice, he was also paying attention to what the instructor was saying.

Though he didn't follow the conventional steps to cast a spell, it didn't mean the information was completely useless to him.

The 'apocalypse ages' or 'dark ages' simply referred to the times and days when mana came into the world.

It was a very tough time for humanity and the planet as a whole.

Human beings had to learn everything on their own, they didn't have anyone to guide them, neither did they have any one to protect them from the incessant mana beast attacks.

It was basically every man on his own--survival of the fittest.

A slight smile appeared on the instructor's face as he nodded his head and continued his steps.

The faces of some of the first year Elementalists turned gloomy when they saw that Harry managed to escape punishment.

Harry placed his attention back on the system screen in front of him. He didn't have any reason to not learn the skill.

[Does the Host want to learn the skill "Lightning Stun"?]

[Lightning Stun: Coat your fingertips with Lightning and stun your opponent with a simple touch.]

[Cost: 5 skill points]

[Yes/No]

'Yes.' Harry said inwardly.

[Learning skill...]

[New skill learnt: Lightning stun]
