Chapter 0100

After confirming that Peach was okay, Yvonne turned to Candice.

Upon seeing the soup splashed on Candice’s sleeve, she was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly

pulled out two tissue papers to wipe it off. “Oh dear, look at how clumsy I am.”

Candice blocked her, saying, “It’s fine. I’ll just go change.”

Yvonne looked at her, asking cautiously, “This outfit is quite expensive, isn’t it?”

Candice hesitated for a moment and then said, “Didn’t you inviteover for a meal?”

Yvonne had stewed soup, along with braised spare ribs, stir–fried beef, and vegetables.

She fed Peach while talking to Candice. “Eat more. We usually don’t buy beef at home. I felt sorry for

you, so I

went to the market early in the morning to buy it.”

Candice, who had just recovered from a high fever, could not eat anything.

She picked at svegetables and upon hearing Yvonne’s words, it was even more difficult for her to

eat.

Seeing her not touching her chopsticks, Yvonne personally picked sbeef and spare ribs for her.

“Eat more. When you were young, you loved the dishes I made the most.”

Looking at her almost overly attentive appearance, Candice slowed down and said, “If you have

something to

tell me, just say it.”

Yvonne stopped picking the dishes and asked with an awkward smile, “I didn’t contact you to ask for

anything. Can’t I just make you a meal?”

Candice could see the nervousness and guilt in her eyes, but she pursed her lips without saying

anything.

After finishing the meal, Yvonne cleaned up the dishes and asked Peach to go to sleep.

Candice sat on the sofa. Actually, she was roughly able to guess what Yvonne wanted from her, but

she was

just waiting for her to speak.

Sure enough, after Yvonne cout of the room, she poured a glass of water for Candice and sat

down next to her. She probed, “Candice, you work at a big company in Dorrington, right? That person

the other day, he’s

your boss, isn’t he?”

Candice gave a faint hum. Yvonne then asked. “Could you try to talk to your boss and persuade him to

release

Ivor?”

She spoke very sincerely. “If others find out about this matter, it’ll be a big deal.”

Candice had already anticipated what Yvonne was going to ask, but hearing it out loud still felt

exhausting.

She took a moment before saying, “Aren’t you overestimating me? How could I influence my boss’s

decisions?”

Yvonne was momentarily stunned, then mumbled, “Can’t you plead with him? Isn’t he willing to help

with such

Yvonne asked her to plead with Alex.

Candice, even though mentally prepared, could not help but feel angry when she heard these words.

She stood

up abruptly, her voice trembling as she asked Yvonne, “Do you really think so little of me? Why don’t

you ever

consider my feelings?”

Yvonne, seeing Candice getting upset, panicked and stood up as well.

She reached out and grabbed Candice, pleading. “Candy, can you help me? I’m begging you, really

begging you!

Yvonne was about to kneel down as she was speaking, and Candice had no choice but to hold onto

her arms

and forcibly pull her up.

Yvonne continued to murmur while Candice raised her voice. “Yvonne Lee, can you be more rational!*

Wiping away her tears, Yvonne suddenly broke down. “How am I supposed to be rational? How can I

be

rational when he’s such a scoundrel? What can I do?

“Even if he’s a scoundrel, he’s still Peach’s father.” Yvonne cradled her face, her crying voice

suppressed and

painful.

Yvonne covered her face while still sobbing. Nevertheless, Candice had already understood the

answer.

Because Peach was still young.

Because Peach could not be without her father.

But what about her?

When Yvonne insisted on getting a divorce, why did she not think that Candice was also young and

could not

be without her father?

Candice suddenly laughed at herself.

Of course, after their divorce, she was sent to live with her grandfather, and neither her father nor

mother

wanted her.

So naturally, there was no need to consider such issues.

When Candice left the old residential building, Yvonne was still sitting in the living room crying.

Before leaving, Candice noticed the leftovers on the table. After a moment of silence, she took out 500

dollars

from her wallet and left it on the table before leaving.

The sun outside was very strong, yet Candice felt her hand was cold.

She was scheduled to have another IV drip in the evening, so Candice decided to find a place to rest

for now.

However, before finding a place, she received a call from Hanley.

“Are you still in Noxville?” Hanley asked.

“Yes.” Candice had just walked into a dessert shop and ordered two cakes along with a cup of hot

water.

“I’m at Noxville Airport.” Hanley said. “I have something to discuss with you.”

Candice asked, “What’s the matter?”

“Are you available now? I.can cto you now to talk face–to–face. I’m quite busy tomorrow as I have

a meeting with clients, I’m a little tight on time.” Hanley’s background noise included airport

announcements, indicating his hurried state.

Candice reported her current location, and waited for him to cover.

She did not touch the two cakes she ordered. She was never a fan of sweet food. She had only

entered the

dessert shop because it was relatively quiet.

Hanley soon arrived, carrying a suitcase, looking somewhat worn from the trip.

Seeing Candice, he frowned. “Are you sick?”

“I have a little fever.” Candice raised her hand to summon a waiter. She asked Hanley, “What would

you like to

drink?”

Hanley did not even raise his head. Instead, he pulled out a document from his phone and handed it to

Candice. “Are you interested in this?”

It was a project proposal for an exhibition. Candice frowned as she read through the content.

This was a proposal for a financial cultural industry exhibition. Candice took a look and asked, “There

are still

exhibitions like this?”

“Yes. However, these are not usually personal events and thus need to be done in a more proper

manner,”

Hanley said, pointing out the advantages as he raised his head to look at her. “I think you’re a suitable

candidate.”

Candice did not directly answer. She was a little hesitant. “Lately I’ve had a lot going on in my personal

life. I’m worried I won’t be able to match your pace.”

She had seen the situation in Hanley’s workspace before and knew that things moved very quickly

there.

Perhaps because it was hot, Hanley unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt and revealed his throat.

His voice was magnetic as he spoke gently. “There’s ample planning tfor this exhibition, and I need

someone with your understanding of the industry and professional knowledge.

“Of course, if you have ideas, I also welcdiscussions,” he added, looking at her thoughtfully. He

spoke faintly. “Moreover, when Jackson mentioned you coming to see me, wasn’t it because you

wanted to try this? Now is a good opportunity.”

Candice could not help but feel a little moved. Hanley was not wrong. To enter the industry through the

financial culture industry which she was familiar with was definitely easier than entering through other

areas.

“If you have any other concerns, I can consider them,” Hanley said at the end.

Candice looked at the plan again, lowered her eyelashes slightly, and said to Hanley, “I want to

seriously

consider it.”
