Jackson looked at Candice, worried, and said softly, “You can tellanything.”

Candice tried her best to smile. “Thank you for staying here the whole day. You haven’t had dinner,

right? My treat.”

It was obvious she didn’t want to talk to Jackson about her grandfather. Jackson gave her a good look

and didn’t pursue the question.

He changed the topic and asked, “How are you doing with Hanley?”

Candice nodded. “He’s quite friendly.”

“You’re probably the first one to say that.” Jackson let out a chuckle. He remembered what Hanley was

like and said, “That’s probably because your personalities are very alike.”

Candice didn’t feel that she had anything similar to Hanley, however. She simply thought that Jackson

was trying to find a topic of conversation, and she played along.

There were no good restaurants nearby. It was dinner time, and the restaurants were all packed. They

were mainly patients who were from the hospital or their family.

They drove to another commercial area.

Candice had little appetite, however, so she asked Jackson, “What do you want to eat?”

Jackson gave her a look and said, “Risotto? Something plain.”

However, they had just stepped into the restaurant when Jackson’s phone rang.

He apologized to Candice and went out to answer the call.

Candice went into the private room before taking out her phone.

In order to take care of Joe in the evening, she had put it on silent mode and had kept it inside her

purse all the while.

When she took it out, she noticed a missed call and two Whatmessages.

They were all from Kayla, asking where she was.

Candice called back and Kayla picked up very quickly. She was still working overtime, and she

sounded like she was suffering. “Hello? Candice? What is it?”

Candice said. “You calledjust now in the evening, right? What’s up?”

“Evening?” Kayla was stunned for a moment before she remembered and said, “Oh, right. The boss

cover to the office asking where you went to just now in the evening. I thought he wanted

something from you.”

Alex was looking for her?

Candice frowned and asked, “Why was he looking for me?”

After her call with Kayla ended, Jackson entered the room. However, he was slightly frowning, looking

Candice lowered her voice and said, “You’re exaggerating.”

Jackson smiled again. “Hanley’s coming back to Dorrington City soon. Let’s get dinner together again

later?”

Candice didn’t mind it, so Jackson said nothing more. He ordered food that was according to Candice’s

taste.

Jackson was indeed quite attentive. He asked nothing about Joe. Instead, he asked Candice about

Hanley and

the exhibitions.

When Candice talked about how she joined Hanley and his planning for the finance exhibition, he

couldn’t hide his happiness for them. “I know that you’re talented in this area.”

Speaking of which, the only reason that Candice traversed into finance was because of Jackson’s

encouragement.

They had a happy dinner, and Candice’s bad mood had relaxed somewhat too.

Candice still wanted to return to the hospital to visit Joe. However, she had just reached the entrance
