571 “There is no statute of limitations for revenge.”

“Saozi, I am scared as well. Will you hold my hand?” asked Yi Youxi and Yi Chen who was walking in front of them while pulling Zi Han along glared at him.

He watched as those little paws were reaching over. He took Zi Han’s hand before Yi Youxi could hold him and said, “Go back if you are afraid or ask dad to hold your hand.”

Yi Youxi wanted to say something but he paused having realised it was a pretty decent idea. “Why didn’t I think of that? Thanks dage,” he said before walking over to his father and holding his hand.

With a pitiful look on his face he said, “Dad, I am scared. Can I hold your hand?”

Yi Zhen, “....”

Could somebody tell him how to react in this situation? If it was Yi Chen he would have smacked him upside his head and told him to grow a pair but seeing that this method made his son grow up distant from him both emotionally and physically he knew this was the wrong method.

He didn’t want Yi Youxi to continue to fear the dark but he didn’t know what method to use that wouldn’t come across as too strict or too coddling.

“Just... just go back to your mother if you are scared,” he answered a little at a loss.

“By myself? I can’t, I am so scared,” he said and Yi Zhen could only rub his temples in frustration.

.....

Yeoh Jun could see he was struggling so he whispered, “Let him hold your hand. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s okay for children, boys or girls to show their vulnerabilities. Now hold his hand like a big man and make your son feel safe.”

Yi Zhen, “...”

“Oh and tell him it’s okay. You have his back,” whispered Yeoh Jun again having realised that this emotionally redundant person wasn’t going to say anything to his poor son.

Yi Zhen glanced at Yi Youxi who was looking at him with those expectant eyes and pursed his lips as though trying to prepare himself to say it out loud.

After a second or two he said, “It’s okay, I will protect you.”

Yeoh Jun pat his shoulder with a proud expression like he was a teacher who had finally seen his worst-performing student improve.

When they reached the wine cellar the door was closed and there was no light seeping from underneath the door.

Yeoh Jun didn’t hesitate to enter followed by the good doctor who seemed ready for war. The rest of them peered through the door watching a good show.

Ming Ming who wanted to scare grown men was suddenly overwhelmed when she saw that Yi Youxi and Zi Han had brought the entire squad so she switched on the lights and put a pitiful look like she was terrified.

Her acting skills were so exceptional that even Yi Youxi almost believed she wasn’t the one who tried to scare them just now. Tried? Actually no, she terrified the living daylights out of them.”

Yi Zhen let go of Yi Youxi’s hand and rushed over to his daughter with a look of panic. This little princess was like porcelain, if she so much as had a crack on her body his wife would throw all three of them out in the cold and tell them to find a hotel to sleep in.

Had it ever happened before? Yes, it did. While he was watching Yi Youxi and Ming Ming he got distracted and the two of them decided it was a good idea to jump from the top of a cabinet in the garage and fall onto the mattress.

While messing around like this and their father not watching them properly Ming Ming got hurt and his wife turned into a t-rex tossing both him and Yi Youxi out of the house.

He remembered his son looking at him with a blank expression while asking if they were homeless now. Yeoh Jun patted his head twice that day while saying, “Maybe... maybe.”

That memory had him rushing over to see Ming Ming and check if the ghost hadn’t touched his little princess.

Yeoh Jun who put two and two together couldn’t help but shake his head while saying, “She is the culprit. She probably wanted to get back at Youxi and Han Han was just collateral damage.”

“No... she is so innocent. Look at her. She looks terrified,” said Yi Zhen defending his little princess. That being said it was easy to see why she would get away with anything under Yi Zhen’s watch.

Yeoh Jun, “...”

With that look on her face, she would probably swindle her father out of all his money.

“Sweety, did you scare your brother and your brother in law?” asked Yi Zhen when the people around him gave him a glance like that when looking at an idiot.

Ming Ming shook her head and Yi Zhen sighed in relief while saying, “See. She didn’t do it,” but Ming Ming slapped his face hard with her next words.

“I scared You-ge and saozi. I don’t have a brother in law but a sister in law,” she said correcting Yi Zhen and Yeoh Jun almost laughed out loud. This kid was really interesting. Now he was kind of regretting not trying for a second one. He would love to have a little girl with Ming Ming’s attitude.

Yi Youxi who was peeking through the door heard this and he got so mad. “You almost gave me a heart attack do you know that? I thought I was going to die,” he said while patting his chest. When he stood there in the dark he saw his life flashing before his very eyes frozen in fear.

“Well, I almost had a heart attack after you put a spider in my hair,” she said and Yi Youxi was dumbfounded.

“That was five years ago! What were you like? Five?” he said scratching his head.

“No... why are you making such a big deal. You scared me and I scared you back, simple,” replied Ming Ming and Zi Han was caught right in the middle of it. He was the innocent one in this case.

“Still, that was five years ago. Surely you can’t hold a grudge for that long,” said Yi Youxi and Ming Ming retorted back,

“Yes, I can. There is no statute of limitations for revenge.”

Everyone, “...”

“Forget it, buddy. You already lost the argument,’ said Leo Lin sympathising with him.
